KUALA LUMPUR (29 April 2013) – SMK Mutiara Impian of Penang finished the first round of the Minister of Education Under-14 Super League at the top of the standings when they beat SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah 1-0 at the SMK Mutiara Impian Mini Stadium on Saturday.

With the win this week, SMK Mutiara Impian are on top of the Super League standings with 16 points from seven matches played.

Chief coach Muhd Rakhi Saad said that the game between last season’s finalists was extremely close to call although the early goal in the 21st minute off Mohamad Abdin Syakirin Ramli did enough for the full points.

“What’s important is the three points and we are taking a step closer to reaching the quarter-finals,” said Muhd Rukhi. “The defence did well on the day to deny SMK Tunku Anum any real shot at goal.”

For defending champions SMK Tunku Anum, the loss was not bad as expected even though, it has now pushed them down to third at the table behind leaders SMK Mutiara Impian and second-placed SMK Putera of Kelantan.

“We controlled the game for sure but we made that one mistake and that cost us,” said Basirul Abu Bakar, the chief coach of SMK Tunku Anum. “But we will play them again in the first game of the second round (in two weeks at SMK Tunku Anum Mini Stadium), so we will be returning them the favour.”

For SMK Putera, they took full advantage of playing at home to score a 2-1 win over SMK Seri Titiwangsa of Kuala Lumpur to pick up 13 points to be placed second at the table.

The side from Kelantan scored two goals off Nik Akif Shahiran Nik Mat in the 40th minute and Mohammad Sharil Shukri 70th minute while SMK Seri Titiwangsa scored their only goal of the game through Hazirul Firdaus Shamsudin       in the 55th minute.

In the meantime in the Premier League division, the Under-13 team of Gambang Sports School strengthened the position at the top of the table with a comprehensive 4-0 beating of SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin of Sabah.

The goals for the Gambang Sports School side were scored by Muhammad Iqbal Hakem Mohd Hata in the 14th minute, Muhammad Hadi Fayyadh Abdul Razak (35th), Muhamad Murtadza Noradzan (47th) and Muhammad Akmal Ashwin Abdul Halim Nihal (69th).

In the meantime in the Ministry of Education League Under-17, SMK Bukit Nenas of Terengganu opened up a two-point lead at the top of Group A with another commanding performance which saw them beating a resilient Under-15 side of the Gambang Sports School 1-0.

The only goal of the game came late in the 89th minute off Muhammad Aqil Irfanuddin Mohd Sabri. With the full points, SMK Bukit Nenas have picked up 20 points from eight matches played.

Isfarizul Emran Ismail was on target in the 30th minute as Faiz Hanif Adnan added the second goal in the 52nd minute. An own goal from Shahrin Che Hassan in the 66th minute completed the humiliation for the islanders.

In Group B, SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin of Sabah picked up their first full points of the season when they beat the Under-14 team of the Gambang Sports School 2-1 off two first-half goals from Mohd Suzairee Samail in the fourth minute and then Mohd Suhor Majin in the 11th minute.
