GAMBANG (17 March 2013) – SMK Za’ba of Negeri Sembilan picked up their third straight win in a row in the Premier League of the Minister of Education League Cup Under-14 when they overwhelmed Gambang Sports School 2-0 in the game that was played at the National Football Academy yesterday.

Despite using players from the Under-13, the lads from Gambang Sports School showed their mettle when they pressed the visiting side hard for both teams to remain deadlock at the break.

But a mistake from defender Harzanhafiz Ahwal in the 65th minute cost the team dearly when his clearance ricocheted off SMK Za’ba striker Haziq Fikrie Haszamie to give the visitors the lead.

Frustrated, Gambang Sports School fell further behind five minutes later when Mohd Izzuddin Anuar fired in the second goal for SMK Za’ba off a free kick.

“Even though we won, we still have to work harder to maintain this winning run,” said Haziq Fikrie after the match. “It was tough at the start for sure but we were more confident in the second half and we got the goals that we wanted.”

The win put SMK Za’ba comfortable in the driver’s seat of the Premier league standings with a perfect nine points from three matches. This follows their 2-1 win over SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin of Sabah in the season opener and then their 2-0 victory over Penang’s SMK Seberang Temerloh last week.

For Gambang Sports School, the loss was their first since the competition begun last month. They had opened their inaugural campaign with a 1-1 draw against SMK Tun Hussein Onn of Johor before thrashing SMK Syed Hassan of Perlis 4-0 in their second tie.

They then beat SMK Seberang Temerloh of Pahang 3-1 last week.

“It was very disappointing to lose this game,” said Gambang Sports School midfielder Muhammad Hadi Fayyadh Abdul Razak. “I thought that we played really well and the manner with which we conceded the first goal just killed us.”

In the meantime defending champions SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah, playing in the Super League of the MELC, fell to a shock 1-0 loss at home to SMK Tabuan Jaya of Sarawak.

The Charity Shield 2013 winners were done in by the lone strike from Antonio Baggio Anak Salleh in the 26th minute.

In the Ministry of Education League Under-17, former champions SMK Seksyen 11 of Selangor fell to their fourth straight defeat – this time conceding a humiliating 3-0 loss to Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School.

As early as the third minute, the homesters nailed the lead through Muhamad Hafiy Haikal Ismail before Najib Abdullah then added the second goal six minutes later for Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School to take a 2-0 lead at the break.

Muhamad Shyamierul Razmee Jasmi then rounded off a fine afternoon for the southerners with the third goal of the game in the 67th minute.
