It's an Honour to be Nominated: Hairuddin

PETALING JAYA (29 Oct 2012):  Former international striker Hairuddin Omar feels that being nominated for this year’s 100PLUS-Astro Arena-FAM National Football Awards is already a massive honour for a player.

The ATM frontman is up against Mohd Badri Radzi and Norshahrul Idlan Talaha from Kelantan for the Most Valuable Player award of the season. Hairuddin lost out in the fight for the Best Striker award last year.

“I believe that I have had a great season this year. ATM won the Premier League and now will play in the Super League. We were also in the final of the Malaysia Cup and although we lost, we played really well and showed that we can be competitive next year,” said the 31-year-old Hairuddin.

“If I win the 100PLUS-Astro Arena-FAM National Football Awards, it will be a bonus and it will give me more motivation to work harder for the new season. It's really a great honour for me to be nominated and recognised as being amongst the best in the country.

“I hope that the young players will work harder to hone their skills and not just look at monetary award alone. They should realize that to be able to play football and getting rewarded for it is very good indeed. They should be grateful for it.”

Just like last year, all the Super League and Premier League head coaches voted for the players they felt were the best candidates for the various categories.

Other than Hairuddin for the Most Valuable Player award, ATM is also up for consideration in four other categories – Best Defender, Best Midfielder, Best Coach and Best Foreign Player.

Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak and Amirizwan Taj Tajudin are up against Kelantan’s S. Subramaniam for the Best Defender award while Rizal Zamri Yahya is pitted against Safiq Rahim of Selangor and Mohd Badri Radzi from Kelantan for the Best Midfielder.

In the fight for the Best Coach award, B. Sathiananthan is up against Bojan Hodak of Kelantan and Irfan Bakti Abu Salim from Selangor while for the Best Foreign Player, striker Marlon Alex James has been shortlisted against Kelantan’s Muhammad Ghadar and Jean Emmanuel Effa Owana from Negeri Sembilan.

The remaining awards for the Best Football Association, Best Club and also for the Best Fan Club will all be decided by the FAM Competitions Committee.
