KUALA LUMPUR (3 October 2012) – Reigning champions Kuala Lumpur will open their title defence campaign against Perak in the 50th edition of the 100PLUS MHC Tun Abdul Razak Cup which begins in Kuantan on Oct 14.

The 19-time champion, who sensationally won last year’s final through a golden goal, have been drawn in Group A along with ATM, Perak and Negri Sembilan. Group B comprises last year’s silver medallist Pahang, who will have Terengganu, Penang and Johor for company.

After their opening day’s game, KL will have a one-day break before resuming their challenge against ATM on Oct 16. Their final group match will be against Negri Sembilan on the morning of Oct 18. Group B will complete their fixtures on Oct 19.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Oct 21 with the final taking place the following day at 8.30pm.

“I expect the quality of the matches will be high. With the one-day break between games for Division One, teams would have had sufficient time to recover and be in their best forms for the next match,” said Mohd Johari Abd Aziz, Secretary of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation.

“I would also like to thank 100PLUS for continuing their support for MHC and in particular the Razak Cup,” Johari said after receiving the event logo from Ms Cariessa Goh, Corporate Affairs Manager, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd.

“With the current hot and humid weather conditions, the players competing in the Razak Cup will enjoy the full benefits of consuming 100PLUS after their matches,” Cariessa said, adding that 100PLUS supported the sport of hockey because the game lived up to the 100PLUS brand ideals of Outdo Yourself.

In Division Two, seven teams will be participating in a league format. The teams battling for the second division honours this year are Melaka, Selangor, Kedah, Perlis, Sabah, Kelantan and PDRM.

For the record, 100PLUS signed with MHC last year to be the title sponsor for the Razak Cup.

In conjunction with the Razak Cup, 100PLUS, with the assistance of the Ministry of Education, the Selangor Education Dept and Selangor Hockey Association, will  be hosting a hockey clinic for children on Oct 6. Over 150 children are expected to attend this hockey clinic which will be held at the MOE Hockey Stadium in Bangsar.
