Ramadan Cheer for 114 Orphans
|Posted on 28 July 2012|
|Remember the days when your parents used to take you for festive shopping…to get new clothes, new shoes, a new ribbon or two for your hair, or even a nice little “kain samping” or “selendang” to complement your new Hari Raya attire. Wasn’t it just about the best feeling in the world when you stepped out in your first day of the celebrations, all decked out and ready to have a good time with family and friends who visited.
Now imagine if you did not have all that. Never mind the festive season, new clothes are the last thing on your mind. You just wish you had a home to call your own and parents to welcome you home.
For the 114 children from “Rumah Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Damai Kuang”, this scenario is not hard to imagine at all. It is the reality they face being rendered orphans or having come from broken homes.
As part of its efforts to spread festive cheer and ensure that the underprivileged members of society are not left out of the celebrations, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd treated the children from the home to a sumptuous “buka puasa” feast before handing out gifts for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations.
An annual affair, the “Majlis Berbuka Puasa Bersama F&N Beverages” is now into its ninth year and by the look of things, F&N Beverages shows no signs of slowing down.
According to Ms. Cariessa Goh, Corporate Affairs Manager at F&N Beverages, F&N is very much a part of all kinds of multiracial and cultural celebrations and gatherings held across Malaysia that bring people from all walks of life together.
“F&N is part of the fabric of Malaysian life so we feel we should seize the opportunity to use our main cultural festivities to giveback to society and consumers who have long since been loyal consumers and have helped the company become what it is today.
“Although we have similar activities during all other festive celebrations, we never get tired of seeing the joy on the faces of the recipients, especially children when they learn that they too are important members of society and thus should be given the chance to share in the occasion and get a slice of joy that many of us take for granted,” Goh said.
Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd Chairman, Tengku Syed Badarudin Jamalullail handed out brand new “baju raya” inclusive of “baju Melayu” or “baju kurung”, complete with songkok and tudung. The children were also given “duit raya” to make the experience complete.
As they marched up the stage, they could be seen fidgeting in excitement as they each took turns to greet the F&N Chairman and most could not wait to get back to their seats to inspect their goodie bags and duit raya packets. Soon, they were running about comparing their new custom-fitted sets of clothes.
Tuan Haji Suhaimi Bin Dzajuli, the headmaster at “Rumah Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Damai Kuang” said that the children have been awash with anticipation the whole week before the event.
“Looking at the children running around with such energy is a joy to behold. Their happiness is evident and I’m sure they will treasure their gifts and look forward to wearing them with pride during Hari Raya.
“On behalf of the home and our residents, I would like to thank F&N Beverages for organizing this amazing majlis berbuka puasa. I don't think some of the kids have seen so much food before and their eyes lit up literally, like kids in a candy store!” Tuan Haji Suhami explained.
“Rumah Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Damai Kuang” was established in 1989, to cater to orphans and while providing shelter and protection to single mums. The home provides all the essential needs which include clothing, food, and accommodation, all the while with a strong emphasis on education, nutritional diet and health. The centre currently houses 116 children (58 boys and 58 girls) and 11 single mums.
