KUALA LUMPUR (8 July 2012) – SMK Seberang Temerloh of Pahang are just a game away from confirming their place in the semi-finals of the Ministry of Education Under-17 Youth League 2012. And this week, they took full advantage of the slip-up of their nearest rival – SMK Tabuan Jaya of Sarawak – to move up to third from fourth following their comprehensive 3-0 win over SMK Gunung Rapat of Perak.

With current Group A leaders SMK Syed Hassan of Perlis firmly in the driver’s seat following their scoreless draw on the road against SMK Tabuan Jaya, the side from the east coast came back from a first half deadlock to score all three goals after the restart.

Mohamad Asyri Abdul Majid opened account in the 39th minute before further goals from Muhammad Nur Azam Abdul Azih in the 81st minute and Mohd Azrul Firdaus Kamarulzaman right at the death gave the home team the full points.

With the win, SMK Seberang Temerloh have picked up 19 points from 11 games – four points behind leaders SMK Syed Hassan. On third is SMK Tabuan Jaya with 18 points while SMK Bukit Nenas of Terengganu have an outside chance of qualifying with 17 points from the same number of games played.

Over in Group B, SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah continued their fine run with another unbeaten performance when they held SMK Putera of Kelantan to a 1-1 draw. SMK Tunku Anum put their noses in front on 35 minute through Mohamad Shahfaif Shahbani but the home team fought back with the equaliser off Mohd Danial Asyraf Abdullah in the 71st minute of play.

With the three points, SMK Tunku Anum are at the top of the table with 33 points from 13 matches while SMK Mutiara Impian – who this week beat SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin of Sabah 3-1 – to remain on second with 27 points.

On third is SMK Seri Kota of Melaka with 24 points but they still have two more games yet to play.

In the meantime in the Minister of Education Under-14 League Cup 2012, SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah are just a point ahead in Group B following their close 1-0 win over SMK Putera of Kelantan. The only goal in the game came in the 62nd minute through Mohd Firdaus Abdullah.

Nearest challenger SMK Mutiara Impian’s hope of overtaking the side from Kedah were dashed when they were held to a 2-2 draw by SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin of Sabah.

Debbson Michael Wong was the toast for SMK Mutiara Impian where his two goals in the second and 35th minute cancelled out the goals from Ariusdius Jais (3rd and 21st minute) for the home team.

With the one point, SMK Mutiara Impian are still second at the table with 26 points. They have already confirmed their place in the next round as third-placed SMK Seri Kota of Melaka are six points behind them with just one more game left to play.

In Group A, SMK Seri Titiwangsa of Kuala Lumpur and SMK Bukit Nenas of Terengganu have already confirmed their place in the semi-finals.

SMK Seri Titiwangsa are at the top of the pecking order with 26 points while defending champions SMK Bukit Nenas are on 21 points.
