We Need Six More Points For Place in Semi-Finals: Muhammad Rakhi
Posted on 17 June 2012
KUALA LUMPUR (17 June 2012) – With just four games left to the end of Group B of the Under-14 Minister of Education League Cup (MELC) 2012, SMK Mutiara Impian of Penang are cautious that they do not drop the baton into the final stretch.

After battling to a 2-1 win over SSM Bukit Jalil - whose team is using only players under the age of 12-years-old - SMK Mutiara Impian chief coach Muhammad Rakhi Mat Saad said that they were actually lucky to escape with the full points. This considering that they were playing at home and in front of their own fans yesterday.

“It was actually quite difficult for us to beat them (SSM Bukit Jalil). Sure they have lost some games at the start of the season but they seem to have improved somewhat and it was really a bonus for us to win this week,” said Muhammad Rakhi.

“There are still four games to go to the end of the group stage and we need to win at least two more matches or six points to confirm our place in the semi-finals. So we have to make sure that the players continue to be motivated for a place in the next round which we last made in 2008.”

In the match that was played at the SMK Mutiara Impian Mini Stadium, Muhammad Hidayat Ruzi opened account for the home team on 17 minute before Awang Muhammad Faiz Hazziq Awang Fathi replied for the visitors with a minute left of the first half.

But Mohamad Shahle Yusoff made sure of the full points for SMK Mutiara Impian when he slotted home the winner in the 58th minute of play.

With the full points, SMK Mutiara Impian maintained their position at the top of Group B with 23 points while former champions SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah are second with 20 points, where this week they edged SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin of Sabah 3-2.

On third in Group B is SMK Putera of Kelantan with 15 points, who this week was held to a 1-1 draw by SMK Seksyen 11 of Selangor.

In the meantime in Group A, SMK Seri Titiwangsa of Kuala Lumpur are still leading the table despite being held to a 3-3 draw by SMK Seberang Temerloh of Pahang. After nine matches, SMK Seri Titiwangsa have picked up 20 points.

On second is defending champions SMK Bukit Nenas of Terengganu with 18 points while third is SMK Gunung Rapat of Perak with 14 points.
