“Kempen Kitar Semula F&N Beverages & MBSA" Heats Up with Twists and Turns!

The time has come for the schools in Shah Alam to go on an all out ‘recycling war’ in order to be crowned as the champion and earn a share of RM15,400 pot in the sixth “Kempen Kitar Semula F&N Beverages & MBSA”.
With just over a month to go before the closing of the campaign, SK Bukit Rimau has made a comeback in the primary schools category pushing the champion, SK TTDI Jaya to second spot. In the secondary schools category, SMK Seksyen 19’s impressive haul could be enough to crown them champions once again but with many schools playing hide and seek with the collectors, it’s far from over.
Baggin' it! The students of SK Seksyen 6 know that proper disposal and storage is also essential to their recycling efforts.
A total of 21,418kg of recyclables have been collected up to date from the 31 schools participating in the campaign.
Determination, perseverance and a strong commitment towards Mother Nature have led SK Bukit Rimau to lead the pack with 2,949kg recyclables collected to date. At this point last year, they were fifth although they finally finished as first runner up. Defending champion SK TTDI Jaya is in second place with 2,648kg collected followed closely by SK Alam Megah 2 with 2,512kg in third place.
Puan Siti Suhaila, coordinator for 3K (Kebersihan, Keselamatan & Keceriaan) under the students affairs department of SK Bukit Rimau was clearly excited that her school was leading but knew that the battle was not over yet.
“Our newly appointed headmaster is a key contributor of our success with his support in motivating the students while the students themselves, their parents and teachers have also played a big part. However, we have to keep at it to ensure we are still ahead at the end of the campaign to break SK TTDI Jaya’s dominance ,” said Puan Suhaila.
These were wise words considering that SK TTDI Jaya is not at all undaunted that they have to play catch up. According to Puan Siti Norzini Hana Bt Muhammed Nor, a teacher at SK TTDI, the students and teachers are fired up for the challenge and are confident the school will make a quick comeback to secure its winning spot again.
“Recycling bins are placed around the school especially in the canteen to facilitate the development of a recycling habit amongst students; even the parents have been very supportive by donating their recyclables which encourages us to go that extra mile,” she added.
Meanwhile, two-time secondary school champion, SMK Seksyen 19, is sitting pretty once again at the top of the pile. With a haul of 3,847kg, they are far ahead of current second and third placed schools, SMK Alam Megah 2 with 2,298.50kg and SMK Seksyen 7 with 1,742kg, respectively.
Puan Siti Rashidah from SMK Seksyen 19 attributed the lead to the collective efforts of everyone involved. However, some schools have a way of withholding their total collection until the final count so we are not letting up just yet. We want to ensure we are full steam ahead in the home stretch of the campaign to win our third trophy!” said Puan Rashidah.
The “Kempen Kitar Semula F&N Beverages & MBSA” is one of the more popular campaigns on calendar of activities for schools in Shah Alam. This year, the campaign was expanded for the first time ever to 24 Shah Alam Residents’ Representative Councils (Majlis Perwakilan Penduduk – MPP). According to F&N Beverages, the inclusion of the councils, who will also receive similar cash prizes to that of the schools, will ensure there is a more holistic effort to keep Shah Alam clean while also spreading the message of recycling to the adults.
