KUALA LUMPUR (13 May 2012) – Defending champions SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah, are well on the way to confirming their place in the semi-finals of the Ministry of Education Youth League 2012 (Under-17) after they demolished SMK Seksyen 11 of Selangor 4-1 in Group B this week.

Goals from Muhamad Hamdan Mohd Zaki in the fourth minute, Muhamad Akmal Mat Isa (22nd minute), Som Keat Praseart (37th minute) and Mohd Aliff Fitri Marzaini (70th minute) ensured the northerners the full points even though SMK Seksyen 11 scored their only goal of the game in the 71st minute off Muhammad Hadzirun Che Hamid.

“There were some issues in the last several matches but I think that we have managed to iron things out. The boys are playing a lot better where they have managed to stick to the instruction given out,” said Mohamad Rizal Johari, the coach of SMK Tunku Anum.

“We are still undefeated in Group B but that does not mean that we can sit back and relax as there are still some matches yet to go.”

Second in Group B and just a point behind is SMK Mutiara Impian who disposed of SMK Za’ba of Negeri Sembilan 4-1, with Muhammad Azrul Zulkifli grabbing a brace off goals in the 12th and 59th minute. The other goals were scored by Muhammad Jafri Mohammad Firdaus Chew (72nd minute) and Muhamad Fitri Che Hassan (81st minute).

In Group A, SMK Syed Hassan of Perlis still maintained their position at the top of the pecking order with 17 points from seven matches. And this week, Syed Hassan were lucky to escape from Johor with the one point after they were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts SMK Tun Hussein Onn.

It was the southerners who put their noses in front when Muhamad Shambrihaizam Sulaiman in the 23rd minute but the visitors replied through Mohamad Safiuddin Mohd Salim in the 72nd minute.

But in spite of the one point, SMK Syed Hassan are still comfortable in front where there are still four points ahead of second-placed SMK Mutiara Impian of Penang.
