Malacca youngsters dominate 100PLUS National Junior Badminton Circuit

KUALA LUMPUR (April 21, 2012): Malacca dominated the 100PLUS National Junior Badminton Circuit (Zone B) when they won seven out of the 16 titles at stake on Saturday.
Zone A was held at Terengganu BA Stadium from Wednesday and saw more than 300 young players competing in four age divisions – Under-18, Under-16, Under-14 and Under-12 boys and girls singles and doubles events.
Boon Wei Ying was the toast of the Malacca team after she won the girls’ Under-18 singles and doubles crown.
In the singles, she outplayed Johor’s Kaw Meng Wei (Johor) 21-16, 21-19, before teaming up with Cindy Lim to once against deny Meng Wei, who partnered Lim Zhi Yun. The Malacca lasses won 21-13, 21-18.
Two other players also won two titles on Saturday, with Malacca’s James Hong winning the boys Under-12 crowns and Negri Sembilan’s Chen Tan Jie the Under-12 gold medals.
Tan Jie’s two victories were among the four won by Negri Sembilan, who finished as runners-up to Malacca. Selangor won three titles while Johor and hosts Terengganu won one crown each.

Meanwhile, the finals of Zone A, which is being held at the KLBA Stadium, Cheras, will begin at 8.30am on Sunday.
Penang’s pocket dynamo Goh Jin Wei will be gunning for another double in the girls Under-12 competition.
