F&N Beverages treats 18 residents of Home of Love to a Chinese New Year celebration

Kuching, Sarawak – A double celebration was in store for 74-year-old Lau Lu Soon and 68-year-old Bong Lee Kiau who had their birthdays celebrated on top of a surprise Chinese New Year visit by Malaysia’s leading soft drinks manufacturer, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd.

It was a touching moment for the two senior citizens along with 16 others from the Home of Love old folks shelter in Kuching, as employees of F&N Beverages ushered in the Chinese New Year festivity and organised a birthday celebration with them.

The Chinese New Year luncheon at the home in Jalan Emerald, Kuching, was part of F&N Beverages’ annual Corporate Social Responsibility initiative which has been organised for the past 14 years.

The celebrations kicked off with a hearty breakfast for the residents which were prepared on the spot by the staff of FNBM themselves.  Singing and dancing filled the home as a a singer began serenading residents while they enjoyed their breakfast.

After a delightful meal, it was now time for the residents to show off their vocal talents. Taking turns, the residents excitedly held the mic and sang to their heart’s content. Favourite oldies, mostly in Chinese were among the top selections for residents.

Spreading Lunar New Year greetings, F&N Beverages employees went around wishing each resident while presenting them with ang pows and goody bags filled with F&N products, mandarin oranges and essential items.

Speaking at the auspicious occassion, Mr Tan Swee Kee, Deputy Operations Manager – Sarawak, F&N Beverages said he was glad that the Company was able to spread joy and their good fortune to the less fortunate during this festive season.

“The visit has been a meaningful one for us as it was for the residents. While, the New Year festivity is a time for families to celebrate together, we also should not forget those who will have a less cheerful festive season due to the tough circumstances they face. Therefore, we were glad to have spent time with the Home of Love and hope this simple celebration helped make the festivity a warming one for the residents,” he added.

Mr Tan also presented Home of Love with gifts which included food items, cleaning equipment and toiletries.  A lucky draw was also held, awarding exciting prizes to residents.

A big birthday cake was rolled out towards the end of the celebration as F&N Beverages employees ushered Mr Lau and Ms Bong to the front to blow out the candles with the help of their fellow residents. It was certainly a memorable experience as all joined in song to wish the two seniors a happy birthday.

This year’s Chinese New Year celebrations by F&N Beverages also included a visit to Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Tua Seri Bahagia old folks home in Ipoh, Perak.
