The Culture of Giving: F&N Beverages Breaks Fast with Children from Rumah Al-Munirah

No child should ever be left out. However, this ideal becomes increasingly Utopian despite an ever-modernising world.
Fortunately, society has not forsaken their less privileged. With contributions from the public and corporations alike, every donation, be it in cash or kind helps make society a more caring one.
Orphaned and poor children are no exception to the list of many causes which desperately need society’s care and attention. This is especially so when the festive season is just around the corner.
Continuing with its commitment to inculcating the culture of giving, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd treated the children from Rumah Al-Munirah in Klang to a sumptuous “Buka Puasa” feast before handing out gifts for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations.
An annual affair, the ‘Majlis Berbuka Puasa Bersama F&N Beverages’ is now into its tenth year. “It is not just about giving the children the things they need. The more important role we must play is to genuinely support and encourage them”, said Cariessa Goh, Corporate Affairs Manager of F&N Beverages.
“We have carried out this initiative for ten years and we are more than happy to continue inculcating this positive corporate culture for years to come”, Cariessa added.
Rumah Al-Munirah provides shelter and support for orphaned children and those of broken families from around the Kampung Johan Setia and Klang area.
On top of providing these children the basic necessities, the home makes it its core mission to put them on the path towards being independent adults who are able to contribute to the community.
“The Home believes in facilitating an environment most positive for them to grow up, learn, and socialise. We place utmost importance in continuous education as well as training and providing basic skills for the children to grow into independent, successful members of the society”, said Haji Mohd. Termizi b. Ismail, Manager of Rumah Al-Munirah.
According to data released by the Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad in November 2012, a staggering number of youths had yet to attain their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) before they leave school. Some factors cited for dropping out are for health reasons, to enter the workforce and because of lack of interest in education.
“There is always the temptation amongst the children to forgo education in order to start working as soon as possible and ease our financial burden. We strongly discourage this idea; hence the support and collaboration from companies such as F&N Beverages goes a long way in ensuring the wellbeing and welfare of the children are taken care of so that they can concentrate on their studies and not worry about money or food”, Hj. Mohd Termizi explained.
Cariessa added on the matter that F&N have always upheld the belief in providing children the opportunity to education. F&N Beverages Marketing also donated RM40,000.00 worth of books for the children of Rumah Al-Munirah to encourage them to read and make use of the library facility that is available in the home.
“We believe that sustained interaction with them would help encourage the children and remind them that having an education is important. By sharing our experience and stories, we hope we can inspire them to push themselves further to excel in their studies”, said Cariessa.

Set up in 2005, Rumah Al-Munirah is managed by the Persatuan Kebajikan Anak Yatim & Miskin Al-Munirah.
